CHILDREN

As the parent of a child with a brain injury, you will have many questions about the life-long impact of your child's injury. Most likely, those questions won't be answered within the first days and weeks. Now is the time to gather information. You are your child's best advocate. Staff can lead you to community organizations and advocacy groups that can help you strategize about schools, regaining friendships, and supporting your child's maximum growth.

The materials in this section will get you started and help introduce you to some of the steps you will be making when your child leaves the hospital. The Brain Injury Association of New York State is here to help you meet the needs of your child while supporting the strengths of your family.

No one should face the trauma of brain injury alone……
