PREVENTION
Preventing brain injuries may not seem like a priority today. Yet, we know that people who have sustained a brain injury are at higher risk than others of being re-injured. Also, we know that many brain injuries are preventable. People working as part of their communities, sharing experiences, provide one of the most powerful prevention tools we have.
As you review these materials, you may want to know more about prevention strategies. In time, you may have ideas about how you would like to be involved. There are many opportunities to help implement effective prevention strategies in schools, homes and communities. The information contained in this section covers a wide range of prevention topics. As always, these booklets and Fact Sheets are available from the Association free of charge.
New York State law requires that children under 14 wear helmits while bicycling, in-line skating, skateboarding, and riding a scooter. Common sense requires that everyone wear a helmet when doing these activities.
