Helmets
Use your head. Wear a helmet when you bike and in-line skate.
- 96% of bicyclists killed in 1996 were not wearing helmets.
- 88% of cyclists' rain injuries can be prevented by a bicycle helmet.
- Universal use of helmets could prevent one death every day and one brain injury every four minutes.
- Children are more likely to wear bike helmets when friends and parents wear helmets, too.
HELMET CHECKLIST
Buy a helmet that meets the safety standards of
- the American National Standards Institute (ANSI),
- the Snell Memorial Foundation, or the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).
