Helmets

Use your head. Wear a helmet when you bike and in-line skate.

  • 96% of bicyclists killed in 1996 were not wearing helmets.
  • 88% of cyclists' rain injuries can be prevented by a bicycle helmet.
  • Universal use of helmets could prevent one death every day and one brain injury every four minutes.
  • Children are more likely to wear bike helmets when friends and parents wear helmets, too.


HELMET CHECKLIST

Buy a helmet that meets the safety standards of

  • the American National Standards Institute (ANSI),
  • the Snell Memorial Foundation, or the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).
